Gloria Mmaduako
THE REGENERATION OF LIFE THROUGH ART
I didn’t pull any punches to bring an artist of Gloria’s caliber to this platform. I had been admiring her work on Instagram for weeks, captivated by the grace and strength radiating from every piece. One afternoon, I noticed a missed call from her — and when I called back, I immediately understood why she had been so hard to reach. Gloria, the breathtakingly talented artist I had been eager to meet, was cradling her two little ones in her arms. Even then, her voice carried warmth and vitality. Within seconds, I was won over by her gentle energy, and we agreed to speak the next day.
During our hour-long video call, I discovered not only a gifted painter but a woman of immense determination and discipline. Gloria spoke about her journey — graduating at the top of her class several times, and pursuing her art despite initial family pressure to find a more “stable” career. It wasn’t long before her passion and talent earned their full support. Her inspirations flow from African culture, sculpture, feminine strength, and, most deeply, from Mother Nature herself.
Leaves are a recurring motif in Gloria’s work. To her, they embody the cycles of the seasons — symbols of regeneration and fertility. “Who better to represent this life-giving force than a woman?” she asked. Through her art, Gloria reminds us that just as leaves shed and renew, we too can flourish again, no matter what we endure.
A full-time studio artist based in Abuja, Nigeria, Gloria Eberechukwu Mmaduako holds a National Diploma in General Arts from the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu (2015), and a B.A. in Fine and Applied Arts from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (2019), where she graduated with first-class honors. She has taken part in numerous exhibitions and workshops, including The Artist’s Path (Artstier, 2025), +234 Art Fair (Soto Art Gallery & Eco Bank, 2024–2025), and the duo show Unveiled Journeys (Abuja, 2024). Her first solo exhibition, Femme Naturelle: A Celebration of Women and Nature, was held at Ogrikan Gallery in 2023. She also emerged second runner-up in the SGBV Innovation Challenge by Her Story, Our Story Nigeria (in collaboration with the EU and IDEA).
Her artistry has been recognized through multiple awards and features — from winning first place at the 5th Biennial National Conference of Music and Performing Arts (2019), to being listed among the Top 25 Artists by the Embassy of Spain, and Top 100 Artists at the Life in My City Art Festival (2015, 2017, 2019). She has also participated in prestigious initiatives such as the Made in Nigeria Master Class with the Nigerian-German Center and Nike Art Gallery. Each of these milestones marks her steady ascent as one of Nigeria’s most promising voices in contemporary art.
Her philosophy as an artist is as poetic as her brushwork:
“Nature’s cycles, especially the symbolism of leaves, remind us that life constantly renews itself. My art celebrates fertility, optimism, and the boundless potential within us all.”
Deeply rooted in Africa’s cultural heritage, Gloria’s work bridges past and present through color, texture, and symbolism. Her abstracts capture the strength and elegance of femininity, her brushstrokes echoing the rhythm of life itself.
Gloria’s art is not merely seen — it is felt. It celebrates life’s ability to regenerate, to heal, and to bloom again. Her work is a hymn to womanhood, to nature, and to the infinite possibility of rebirth.
