INSPIRATION

L’Élite is a critical reflection on certain African elites, particularly within Francophone societies. Through a dense and symbolic composition, Pierre Segoh questions the role of those who claim to guide society yet often prioritize personal comfort and security over the well-being of the people.
 
The figures and symbols throughout the work evoke individuals who follow flags, ideologies, or personal interests while remaining trapped in systems of privilege and social protection. Meanwhile, ordinary people continue to suffer, abandoned by those who were expected to lead responsibly and organize society for the common good.
 
The nail suspended above the figures serves as a powerful symbol: whether they want it or not, truth and reality eventually catch up with those who misuse power. Through his instinctive and expressive visual language, the artist delivers a work that is political, deeply human, and strikingly contemporary.
