INSPIRATION

Sussin’ is rooted in the gentle yet powerful alchemy of connection—those fleeting, intimate exchanges shared with others in places far from where we began. The title comes from Jamaican Patwah, meaning “gossiping” or “sharing secrets”—a kind of lighthearted, conspiratorial exchange of stories, laughter, and the daily textures of life.

This painting lives between memory and dreamscape, inspired by moments both familiar and foreign. It draws from the heat-drenched stillness of childhood afternoons on the lawn of my family home, the rhythmic pulse of summer days on Toronto Island, and the kaleidoscopic energy of Canada Day nights.

Sussin’ reflects how every encounter—especially those in unfamiliar places—becomes woven into the fabric of who we are. These cross-cultural, deeply human moments expand us. Through warmth, conversation, and presence, we carry pieces of others and other places with us, weaving a rich, ever-evolving tapestry of experience.
