Williams Mosete

As a lover of storytelling, I couldn’t help but succumb to the works of Williams, who uses his brush to tell us beautiful modern African tales. So it wasn’t long before I contacted this “painter-storyteller”, whose art takes me back to my childhood when life was so light and I marveled at nothing.

Williams’ first steps in art were in sculpting. He loved watching the “big brothers” in the neighborhood give shape and life to objects. Quickly, he got his hands on some clay and started imitating them. At the same time, he loved to draw, everywhere and always, so much so that it earned him many punishments from his school’s teachers.

His father, reluctant to embrace art as a vocation, was eventually convinced by the family circle of Williams’ great artistic potential and the logic of developing it. Williams eventually enrolled at Académie des Beaux-Arts de Kinshasa (Academy of Fine Arts of Kinshasa). There, he developed and perfected his artistic skills, particularly in painting.

Today, Williams is a full-time artist. His art is a vibrant depiction of daily life in Kinshasa, particularly that of children. In a striking harmony of colors, his paintings illustrate these young souls immersed in their urban games on the streets of Kinshasa. Their joyful, playful world reveals their dreams of a brighter future.

For this artist, childhood symbolizes not only the purity of spirit but also the promise of the future in a society where hope and concern are intertwined. So, through his art, Williams intends to embellish the future by inspiring young and old alike, because, deep down, a child remains in all of us.

He also wants to give art the place it deserves in his country the Congo, as a valuable means of recalling and enhancing cultural values and identities that are being lost over time.

Thank you for inspiring us and giving us hope through your artistic mission, Williams.
