Jodianne

In addition to their delicate beauty, I find Jodianne’s works imbued with great sensitivity and vulnerability. I have the impression that the women depicted in her works let the public see them in a moment of intimacy, where they can be themselves and not worry about the gaze of others.

After falling for her art, I had the pleasure to learn more about Jodianne and her artistic journey through a Zoom call.

As far as she can remember, she has always been creative and loved art. Coming from a Jamaican family that immigrated to the U.S., she admits that in her family setting, there was more emphasis on success and financial stability than on art, which, let’s face it, is more easily associated with a hobby than a viable professional vocation (even more so in the context of immigration, in my opinion).

Jodianne studied in the medical field, then switched to business, until 2020, when she decided to listen to her heart and give way to her creative soul. This “artistic growth” led her to confront her fears, particularly the fear of lack, which she believes (and so do I) is a mentality handed down from generation to generation and can only be defeated through awareness and ongoing mental work.

Today, Jodianne and her art are one. Her artistic enterprise, Gently Made Studios, aims to raise awareness among women, particularly black women, of the importance of being in harmony with oneself to thrive. Jodianne wants to help her clients cultivate the strength of vulnerability, in soft, delicate spaces, to counterbalance the images of the strong, independent woman that are often conveyed to them in American society.

In this way, her works remind women that they should be allowed to embrace their femininity, gentleness, sisterhood, and weaknesses, no matter what society dictates. She wants them to know that they deserve abundance, peace, and prosperity.

I particularly loved visiting Jodianne’s website, which, with its calming, subtle palette, offers a beautiful space for serenity and self-acceptance. Although I’m a man, I must admit that while on the website, I could easily relate to a woman who would buy a magnificent work by Jodianne to enrich her life experience as well as embellish her space.

I highly recommend you visit it at: https://www.gentlymadestudios.com/

Thank you Jodianne for our authentic and enriching conversation. I came away inspired (I hope you did too😊).
