Eunice Akintayo

No sooner had I seen one of Eunice’s works entitled Inner Light on Instagram than I knew I had stumbled upon a true artistic gem. My wonderment only grew as I gazed in awe at her other works.

Eunice’s art touches my heart. To me, it emanates inexplicable emotional intensity, as well as great finesse, elegance, and poetry. So, I had to talk to this artist to get to know more about her and her sublime art. This I did without delay, and a few days later I had the chance to meet Eunice by video call.

From an early age, Eunice was deeply attracted to drawing and painting. Her parents quickly noticed her artistic gift and encouraged her to develop it.

By high school, she was already displaying great drawing skills that were admired by her classmates and teachers alike. For example, the teacher would invite her to illustrate scientific concepts on the blackboard in biology class, while fellow students would offer her money to draw for them.

Her growing and unwavering artistic passion led her to pursue her studies at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology, where she perfected her skills and obtained her National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) in painting with honors.

This young artist has a string of artistic feats and achievements, which I could go into at length here, but I’d like to share with you one thing that struck me enormously about Eunice, and which I think shines through in her art: her positivity. Listening to her talk about the messages she seeks to infuse in her art — the adoption of a positive state of mind and the motivation to grow as a person no matter the challenges we face — I could feel I was in the presence of an artist who is in total harmony with her art. An artist who speaks the truth from her heart through her brush. Eunice simply tells the truth as she paints and maybe that’s what I can feel so deeply but just can’t quite explain…

Her artistic endeavors involve an ongoing search for the best way to interpret her beliefs about personal and societal experiences, employing a variety of mediums, including oil, acrylic, charcoal, pastel, graphite, and digital software. Her work reflects her deep interest in the human aspects of life, including the body, standards of beauty, self-awareness, and personal motivation.

Through her art, Eunice strives to foster lasting dialogues about individuals and society and to capture moods, ideas, and figurative expressions, with a particular focus on women.

Thank you Eunice for such an authentic and inspiring interview. Continue to soar to artistic heights and fill us with positivity through your art.
