Beatrice Mashala

I discovered Beatrice through an online exhibition promoting Tanzania’s cultural and ancestral heritage, in particular the Hadzabe and Datoga peoples, millennia-old peoples who are trying to preserve their ancestral way of life in modern Tanzania. Beatrice was one of the artists featured in the exhibition, and I really liked her work. So I looked her up on Instagram (where I had a crush on her other artwork), contacted her and we agreed to a video call.

During our call, we discussed her artistic experiences, specifically her first solo exhibition held in September 2023, the realities of art in Tanzania, and her dreams as an artist.

Beatrice inspires me enormously with her artistic talent, her determination as a female artist, and her mission to use her art as a means to change the world. I’m very happy to have met her, and I had to honor her on this website.

A big thank you to you, Beatrice, who, by the way, is the first Tanzanian national I’ve had the good fortune to talk to face-to-face in my life. It was a wonderful artistic and human encounter.
