HYPERREAL DREAMS: ADÉGÒKÈ’S JOURNEY THROUGH SHADES AND SYMMETRY

Here’s another of Africa’s artistic gems: Adégòkè Adebanjo, better known as Ade Arts. Born in Lagos in 2003 and hailing from Ijebu, Ogun State, Nigeria, Adégòkè gives us the impression that he knew how to draw before he could talk or walk. At just 22 years old, his talent and discipline already place him among the most exciting young hyperrealists of his generation.

His artistic journey began at age seven, when cartoons and comics sparked his first sketches. By high school, he had already developed a certain mastery of drawing, but everything changed when he encountered the world of hyperrealism through Gbadamosi Dayo (also known as Ekundayo Arts).

Realizing the craft demanded a new level of rigor, Adégòkè devoted himself to constant practice — sometimes drawing 100 heads within a specific period — and studied the works of great masters such as Arinze Stanley, Kelvin Okafor, and Ken Nwadiogbu. This unwavering discipline refined his hand and sharpened his vision.

Today, Adégòkè’s pencil works transcend mere likeness. Each piece is more than an image — it is a story bottled inside a face, waiting to be shared. His hyperrealism captures not just features but also emotions, strengths, and vulnerabilities, making his subjects tangible and profoundly human. For him, music is essential while working: rhythm guides his flow and inspires his current style, where realism blends with pixelation.

Through this technique, he reveals the underlying harmony of the world — from heartbeats to butterfly wings, architectural patterns to birdsong — each pixel a note in a larger symphony of shades, textures, and emotions.

Drawing inspiration from his environment, Adégòkè uses art as a tool for awareness, reflection, and connection. His aim is simple yet powerful: to express what he feels and observes, while moving viewers deeply.

When asked about his future, his words are humble yet ambitious:

Tomorrow holds countless surprises, but my goal is always to be better than yesterday.”

Adégòkè, may your meteoric rise continue to fill us with wonder. Thank you for the warm and inspiring encounter — the world has only just begun to see the brilliance of your artistry.
