The piece is an imaginary composition that depicts the intriguing wonders and treasures of diverse African cultures as seen in the drawing.
The stool on which he sits is from Congo. The statue from Côte d’Ivoire is beside his right hand. The hieroglyphic inscriptions, cat statue, and pyramid are from Egypt on his left side. The man’s head is a mask from Nigeria/Benin. The head of a woman, “queen mother,” is also from Nigeria/Benin. The baby-like sculpture he is holding is an “Akuaba doll” from Ghana Ashanti.
The art piece harmonizes diverse treasures of Africa, celebrating the powerful thinking and dexterity of African people.
