INSPIRATION

In *Garden of Delay*, Nigerian contemporary artist Yakno Abasi Ene explores the expressive possibilities of unconventional materials, bringing together acrylic, oil pastels, and fragments of canvas on a textured burlap surface.

The painting marks a return to a material the artist had experimented with several years earlier, without achieving the results she envisioned. Revisiting burlap with a renewed approach, she began layering pieces of canvas over its coarse surface, creating a dialogue between contrasting textures and materials.

Through this process, Yakno expands her artistic language beyond the painted image, inviting viewers to experience the work through its physical qualities as much as its visual composition.

The interplay of layered surfaces, lush vegetation, and vibrant colors gives the painting a distinctive tactile richness, reflecting the artist’s ongoing curiosity and willingness to experiment.

More than an exploration of materials, *Garden of Delay* reveals how revisiting an unfinished artistic pursuit can open the door to new possibilities.
