Jules Disso
It was a real pleasure for me to meet Jules, an artist whose sublime works had charmed me on Instagram a few days earlier. Jules’ art is all about children, in particular their development through play.
During our video call, Jules explained that children, who are part of his daily environment, are his main source of inspiration, as they have so much to offer and teach us. According to him, they are a kind of mirror of their environment, and through their eyes, we can, for example, get to know their parents or understand human values such as loving one’s neighbor.
Indeed, Jules’ works often touchingly depict children in the role of their parents, assuming their protective and nurturing role with toys (teddy bears and dolls) or their counterparts.
We also discussed his artistic journey, which began with graffiti, before moving on to academic training in the fine arts and mentoring.
Today, Jules is a full-time painter, something he was perhaps destined to become (based on his conception of childhood), having grown up in a family of cartoonists. Aware of his role as an artist educator, Jules set up a workshop for young artists fresh out of school, to guide and support them in their artistic careers, just as he was guided and supported.
I left this meeting even more inspired than I already was by contemplating this artist’s work.
Jules, for me, your paintings are a real feast for the eyes and the soul. They give me even more to live for!
I invite you to do the same. Let your inner child revel in them and, if you feel like it, buy one or more. Your walls will be all the happier for it!
