Bella Mfon

A little over a year ago, when I discovered Bella Mfon’s captivating art on Instagram, I couldn’t help but click the Follow button. Fascinated by the aesthetic, but above all by the magnetism of her work, I explored every stroke, every hue, only to realize that I was, in fact, exploring different parts of my soul. Indeed, for me, Bella’s works are like a spiritual mirror, capable of transporting me on a journey into my inner self, where powerful emotions rise to the surface. Whatever the piece I observe, this spiritual journey is always one of discovery and expansion of the imagination. I could spend hours contemplating them.

The day I discovered Bella, I promised myself I’d get in touch with her sooner or later to learn more about the artist and her artistic world. And that’s exactly what I did recently. But before reaching out, I made sure to read a few articles about her, so I’d be a bit more prepared for our phone interview. Perhaps I shouldn’t have, because these articles were so interesting, so thorough, and so well-written that I began to wonder how my questions would stand out (you can find those articles at the end of this one).

As soon as our interview began, I mentioned this to Bella, so we wouldn’t have to rehash information I had already read and she had already shared. Instead, we were able to have a more informal, in-depth discussion. Still, I’d like to offer you a portrait of this passionate artist.

Bella Mfon is a self-taught visual artist based in Abuja, Nigeria. She is also a young woman who has undergone an inner journey marked by suffering and resilience. For over ten years, she struggled with depression, but in 2018, art therapy acted as a beacon in the darkness, guiding her steps toward a new light. It was a turning point, a revelation: art became much more than mere creative expression; it was a path to healing, a means of releasing long-suppressed emotions.

Through her creations, Bella explores the complexity of thoughts and feelings that she sometimes struggles to express in words. Dancing between light and darkness, she captures the subtleties of mental well-being and life’s challenges, inviting us to reflect on our own inner struggles. Her work, imbued with texture and fluidity, is an invitation to introspection.

She wields acrylics with meticulous precision and uses fluid art techniques to create vibrant works that speak to the soul.

Her art spoke to mine, but speaking to Bella in person ignited an even greater spark of inspiration within me. I saw in Bella an authenticity and honesty that are entirely in keeping with her art, which is genuine to the core. Her life’s journey, her social conscience, and her unwavering commitment to mental well-being and the socio-economic advancement of women worldwide won me over, and I couldn’t help but carry her art and vision loud and clear.

So, it is with great pleasure that I present here the striking works of Bella Mfon, an artist who inspires me to the fullest and whose art will transform your space into an exhilarating haven. Take a look at her work, breathe, and let your emotions and imagination take over.

A big THANK YOU to you, Bella, for this enriching encounter.
