WHO IS MAWU?
My name is Mawu, short for Mawugon (pronounced ma-wu-ŋon), which means ‘God is good’ in the Ewe language; a language spoken in Western Africa. And Mawu simply means ‘God’. I’m telling you this in all humility, of course.
I’m a self-taught artist who gathers much of my inspiration from personal experiences and my perceptions of the world. I love creating works that are esthetically appealing but which, most importantly, convey a deep meaning by touching on universal subjects like birth, love, hope, the meaning of life, personal development, and spirituality, among others. I essentially use oil paint to materialize my vision.
I truly believe that art helps heal the soul and that belief has become my mission since I made the leap to full-time artist during the Covid-19 pandemic to fight negativity with my art and brighten my life as well as others’.
Thank you so much for taking the time to just look at my art. That’s all I want; share it with the world.
If you have a specific project you would like to propose or you would like us to collaborate, please do not hesitate to contact me. It will be a real pleasure for me to take part in this artistic and inspiring adventure.
